I reformatted recently, and a buddy of mine went nuts trying to streamline my comp. I think that may have something to do with this.

anyways, i go through the normal process of creating a new account, try restarting and all, and when i get to the user login screen the new account name appears like normal. but when i click on it, it says 'loading personal files' and then it goes back to the login screen. trying it twice brings up the message saying that i'm not connected to the network, and theres problems loading the profile.

any ideas whats going on? thanks guys!

ps. the same thing happens with the guest accounts.

Try using this command in Start -> Run:

    control userpasswords2

When you change the name of an account in XP's futsy control panel it doesn't really change the account name. If you were trying to connect to a network with the username jsmith and your Windows XP account was John Smith it wouldn't work.

that's not it....for some reason when i create a new account, the profile files aren't properly created; even when I'm logged in on the Administrator account and I clich on 'switch users' nothing happens, eventhoguh I have several limited accounts and the guest account turned on.

I don't know what the problem is.

Sounds like the Windows install failed - is it a legit copy?

no install was fine, i said that someone streamlined my comp and did lots of crazy stuff to it.

anyways, the problem has been fixed, in case anyone wonders its the 'default user' profile that was deleted and missing. i had someone send it to me over MSN.
