I have my surround sound stereo reciever hooked up so that the sound from my computer plays through it. For some reason lately when I have been playing a specific game (Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines) if there is a loud noise like a gun shot or explosion the stereo just shuts off. This really doesn't make sense to me because it only happens in this game and the reciver is only connected to the computer with stereo audio cables.

    n e ideas??

It sounds like a safety feature of your receiver. Many of them will have a "kill switch" to prevent damage to the speakers or even the unit itself. A quick way to fix this would be sure you have the receiver getting it signal from the line out and not the headphones jack. This should put the task of amplification on it and not your system + it.
