So Im surfing NWS material on the OTMF when all of a sudden my scroll ball stops scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine but not down. Any ideas how to fix this? I thought maybe its dirty but I dont see a way to take it apart unless I break it.

jizz in it. google, there are plenty of ways. you can usually fix it by rubbing it hard (the mouse ball you perv) with a damp cloth while holding it upside down.

mine does it every now and then as well. hold it upside down and just move it all around for a bit and usually it'll kick back in.

Someone I know used a paper towel with a bit of rubbing alcohol on it and hold the mouse upside down while rubbing the ball around in a circular motion. I haven't tried it myself, but that's just what he told me.

paper will leave pulp, use some kind of lint free cloth.

Mine did the same thing - up but not down.

I fixed it by holding it upside down and blowing compressed air into the opening around the little ball. Don't know how it worked but it worked.

press hard on it and roll it around hard., that should clean it out a bit

Woot I wet a small area on a towel, rolled the ball around it for a few seconds, then moved the ball around on a dry area, then took some compressed air and blew it around the ball. Good to go now.

That happens to mine every couple days. I have just made it routine to throw the mouse in the dish washer every night before I hit the sack.

I wake up every morning to a pearly white mighty (clean, spot free) mouse.

Mine used to do this all the time as well, damn near impossible to get it working properly. 'Twas incredibly annoying and frustrating.

Best solution for me was to flip it upside down & scrub the living hell out of it with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser - I did it a couple weeks ago, and it hasn't clogged up since. :big grin:

This mouse was obviously designed by someone who never used an old ball style mouse.

Why would they make it so difficult to easily maintain?

I took mine apart today. Dirt accumulates on the little rollers inside the track ball mechanism. I did use our compressor to blow air , but decided I might as well take it apart and give it a good clean up. Works like new again. You will have to "break" the glue tabs that hold that outer ring in place.

best and easiest solution is to take a blank white piece of computer paper, turn off your mouse, turn it upside down and roll the ball really hard and fast around on the paper. youll see the little bits of dirt that come out and your ball will work like new.

I hate to say it, but dump the Apple mouse and go for a Microsoft Laser Mouse. That's what I've been using for years now.
