i recently recieved my macbook, and im in the process of transfering music from my external HD to my laptop. Well, everything has been transfered, but when i drag the folder over to the itunes app, it tries to copy everything again and gives me a message saying that i'm going to run out of space. What's going on??

although, i wouldnt recommend it as itunes is not set up to work like that. well it is, but its not very efficient.

if you let it, itunes will copy and organize your files in your library for you. ie:

download an mp3/album/whatever to your desktop
    2 clicks
itunes makes a copy + sends it to the proper directory
you delete og file from desktop
    ?????????
    profit

i can't imagine sorting 10k mp3s manually. those tards in the main forum are living under a rock out of sheer :greddy:

You can change the folder where iTunes stores the music and then have it sort/organize for you. That work?

    :mamoru:

all of my music is copied, so much easier to find stuff and ensure it does not get accidentally deleted. none of my friends copy their music, they are all on pc's and literally dont understand why you would want to do that. its like using a pc for so long makes you think difficult. maybe im just used to computers being simple and not having problems with them?

I've never had music dotted all over my HD. Ever since i've been downloading music, i've been anal about keeping them in folders by Artst-album, and all of those on one album.

change your itunes folder to the folder you keep it on the external drive. That's how I have my library setup. Download music the desktop, import to itunes, it gets copied to my external drive and a I delete the original.

All of my tunes are stored in my music folder on the desktop. Its all sorted pretty much identically to iTunes music folder though.

ok, if you have a 40gb of free space, and you have 25gb of music you obviously wouldnt be able to do it all at one time. so you take 15gb of music and add it to itunes. like a-m, then once that is finished delete the original, and do the other half....was i the only one who thought that was a pretty logical and obvious solution??
