This computer has this MB in it-

    http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=p4tsv

I wiped the HD with WipeDrive Pro then reinstalled windows XP SP2 performance edition (excludes a lot of bullshit). Before re-installation, it had the C-Media CMI9880 version 5.12.01 audio driver. I downloaded it and when I set up it tells me device doesn't exist or maybe removed.

How do I go about fixing this?

are you absolutely sure "C-Media CMI9880 version 5.12.01 audio driver" is what you have installed, more over, check the sound card chip on the board incase its different.

also, check that on board sound is enabled in the bios and or any jumpers you may have are 'on', although most things are done in the bios these days.

thats where i'd start then start think in about any warranty you might have..

    * last minute idea, is install any 'motherboard drivers' you may need/have, some components might need to be installed correctly for the os to see the sound card. it would seem like a fucked up setup but a possibility

Is that a self installing driver, or do you have to do it manually?

It was actually the CMI9739 driver.

I don't know what the fuck I was thinking. I also was having some weird problems with XP pro so I put Home on it and now it works like a charm. Thanks guys. :bigthumb:
