I have a Maxtor 3000LE 40GB external USB HD. I bought a Maxtor 80GB HD. A friend of mine said I should be able to replace the current HD with the new one and it would work. I replaced the HD with the new one and connected the USB cable to my laptop. Windows recognized the new drive and displayed its various bubble messages in the taskbar but 'My Computer' does not display the drive so I am unable access it.

    Any thoughts?

Did you partition and format the disk?

yeah you need to partition, and format before you can use it.

    :werd:, What they said.
To do this, click Start -> Run -> type "diskmgmt.msc" -> right-click on unformatted spcae -> click "Format"
