is the focus on the side girls not as sharp just because of distance from the camera and I AFed on the middle people? or is it a metering issue? or is it somethin else?

it seems like every picture I have of them they're both slightly blurry :o

maybe they just move a whole lot :o

    30d + 50mm f/1.4

not much DOF at f/2. gotta increase the ap or choose a wider lens.

there are online DOF calcs, but beyond, try to remember that 1.3 of the range of acceptable focus is infront, 2/3 in back, so at times you may need to ever sl slightly back focus

oh and try to get people to look at you, a solo portrait is ok but a simple group shot you should have them looking at you. just yell my cam makes you look 10lbs ago and they'll snap to looking at you :noes:

 yeah my uncle was taking pics with his D2X.. it was hard to get anyone to look at me :hs:

edit: that is a really nice camera but he seemed really impressed with things that even the 30d can do.. guess that's what you get going from a d70 to a d2x

    thanks

for the 50mm f/1.4.. when it asks for actual lens focal length I'd put in 50 or 80?

I'm guessing 50 and that's why it asks what camera or format you have :o

you said "60th at 250" which is shutter speed and iso.. after saying 1.4 aperture was too shallow.. different subjects.

yeah my head came off or somethin (with my brain). I used the f/2 to get a shallow dof and a nice blurred background.. and didn't even think that maybe I went too shallow and didn't get all the subjects in focus :uh:

f/2 is not enough aperture when people are standing in front of each other.

the 50 1.4 will not have probelms with soft corners, there just wasn't enough DOF to get them all in focus from that distance.

A lenses sharpest aperature is almost always 2 stops from wide open.

    More DOF:
    - stop down (bigger numbers :mamoru: )
    - move away from subject
    - use wider lenses

    LESS DOF:
    - open aperture up
    - closer distance to subject
    - longer lenses
