I prefer to hide my porn/private data in encrypted disc images. You get the same level of protection and it can be done using the included disc utility app.

Open up Disk Utility. Go to file->new->blank disc image. Choose either 128 bit or 256 bit encryption. Under Image format change it to sparse image and chose a value for the image size that is larger than the data you want to store.

The sparse image does have a slight performance loss when reading and writing, but the advantage over a regular disc image is that it only takes up the amount of space needed to store your files and grows as you add more to it, while a standard disc image of 800mb always takes up 800mb of space on your hd even if you have 20mb worth of porn/data in it.
