Since school started, I noticed that I've printed out a LOT of notes. I recently found a way to combine 4 pages into 1, but is there a printer that anyone can recommend? Buying ink cartridges for my Lexmark and HP DeskJet printers is getting expensive. I was consider those laser printers, but I'm not sure what is good and economical. Anyone have any suggestions?

Oh yeah, I plan on buying it at a Best Buy too. I just want the extended warranty on the printer, since I seem to have bad luck with electronics. :hs:

Brothers makes a good laser printer for under $200. It's a good printer. Something like 15+ ppm which isn't bad. Laser is definitly cheaper compared to those gay ass ink cartridges. I currently have a hp 4050 laser rinter but it's a tad overkill for home use.

Yes, the brother is a good choice.. HP makes an inexpensive choice too, which I believe is $199. Office Depot had both last time I went printer shopping (3 weeks ago :eek3: )

That brother printer, the model number, I'm pretty sure, is HL-1440. Too lazy to search Brother's site to confirm myself.

Toner is more expensive than ink, but it should last a fair bit longer. I guess the best thing would be to look at how many pages you print a month and look at the toner cartridges for the various printers you're considering to see how many pages they get. That'd give you an idea of how economical it would be.

I have a HP 4P laser here at work.. toners don't cost all THAT much, and it's relative because I've worked here for 2 years and just changed the toner for the first time about 3 months ago. Granted - I MIGHT print 10-15 pages a day, but still. That's damn good if you ask me.

I've heard from several people that the HP 3 and 4 models are spoded to live forever.

This is true.. HP 3 and 4 printers are diehard printers..and you can pick them up on ebay fairly cheap.

Yea, that's very true. We have 3 or 4 of the IIIp's at work, they're ancient and they still work perfectly.

How much are toners for the HP 3 and 4 printers? I might just look into buying one from EBAY. Hopefully it won't break on me :(

    www.officemax.com also.
They have the Refurbished HL-1440 on sale for 99.99. You could get the extra warranty on it (i think its $20) and be spending less, you would just have to take the receipt to an Officemax and ask for the Maxassurance (<- really gay name).

    Reviving an old thread...

I purchased a Brother HL-2040 after reading the comments on this thread. This printer has been awesome for me! It is super reliable, and the toner really isn't as expensive as I thought it would have been.

The only thing I don't think it does is print on both sides. Is there a printer that ya'll would recommend that is about $100-$150 new? I don't need anything that does color.

EDIT: holy crap I didn't know I made this thread in 2003. I didn't even buy the printer until March 2007 LOL.
