For one of my nursing classes, we (my group of 8) have to go to an elementary school and educate several groups of third-graders on fire and gun safety.

Seems like a prime opportunity to direct some kids in the right direction in life. :x:

Any ideas on what I should include or how to go about explaining it so they'll understand? So far, all I've really got is the 4 rules of firearms safety, but I'm not sure if that'd be enough.

    serious reply:

for kids that young there is nothing much you can do except tell them

    1) don't touch it
    2) leave the room
    3) tell an adult

    :dunno:

the kids are going to be too young to be handling a gun(s) regularly so the 4 Rules of Firearms wouldn't be applicable here.

Yea, I kinda questioned myself as to whether they were old enough to understand. I'll probably go with the simple, 'don't touch it' route.

Really you need to educate the adults the kids are going to tell since probably most of them don't have the slightest idea how to clear a weapon. :o

3rd Grade isnt THAT young, my dad had me shootign BB guns since I was 3, and I think we first took the .22 out when I was in 1st grade. I think i'd include them, but say something like "if your parents have guns and you ever go to the shooting range with them, then..."
