within the past couple of weeks there was a post in f&n by someone talking about how they go to the gym no matter what even if they are sick so as to not give themselves the excuse to not go.

does anyone know where that thread is? or the post for that matter?

I am catching up on my posting here as I have been working a ton of hours lately. I have worked 28 hours in last two days and over 100 hours in the last nine days. This has been pretty typical for the last four months. It has required some sacrifice on my part but that doesn't include my training or eating. Sometimes I have had to train at 1am after working a sixteen hour day or getting up and training at 5am before driving a 200 mile round trip to pick up overtime somewhere. This has frequently meant that I may only get two to four hours of sleep but I am not going to miss training and let go of my goals simply because it requires more effort on my part. I am just of the belief that you have to do whatever it takes to accomplish your goals and there is no such thing as an excuse to miss training or to not train hard. To me when someone says I can't or couldn't what they are really saying is = I don't want it bad enough or I'm not willing to work that hard.

Only losers use the words "I can't",

hmm, thats not the one i was thinking of...

he talked about how he never misses a day even if he is sick and goes on to say that it isnt right for most people, the point of it being that it doesn't give him the chance to have an excuse to not go to the gym

i kinda like going when i'm slightly sick, seems to make me feel better. Plus, I get a chance to cough on everything, hopefully making other people feel as miserable as I do

if you read up on the effects of heavy physical stress on your system when you are sick. you would realise its bad. plus. i HATE it when sick fuckers come and cough all over me while im trying to stay healthy and lift.

i actually agree with hwr... i used to be gongho about going even when sick but it's better if i stay home and rest... although it takes a lot for me to stay in... i usually come back stronger or get back to where i was strength wise anyways

found it, it was matt K, just a different quote

    http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=2846790

"[...]Another key point for me was never allowing an out. When I set my mind to something there was no other option other than to do what I set out to do. In training this means not missing any training regardless of the reason(unless it involves worsening an injury that will hold training back even more). I have gone to the gym ill and vomited numerous times from the illness but still performed my workout. After my surgeries I was always back in the gym the same day or the next day after coming home from the hospital. That is not always the best thing to do for everyone but in my case it was about discipline and never having an excuse that made it okay to not train. Once you find one excuse it quickly becomes easier to find another and another. That is another reason why I often train on very little sleep or while working a ton of hours. I simply don't feel there is a valid excuse not to.[...]"

I work under the premise that if I can't have a full and productive workout, I won't go; this includes exhaustion, illness, some sort of injury.

I don't need to kick myself when I'm down just to 'keep the routine'

you are wrong because instead of just mentioning that some people need a more rigid discipline to stay dedicated, you equate an unhealthy dedication with elitism

I'm sick today and I felt lethargic by noon, I lifted anyway and I felt a LOT better afterwards.

If taking a day off because your sick throws off your whole routine, you're in a pretty precarious position. I don't disagree though - if you don't make time, it's not that you can't, it's just not important enough to you. When I don't go, it's because sleep/leisure/school/wife are more important. No excuses necessary.
