    hey everyone,

been using gmail since 2004 so I've got plenty of email in that account...

just set up the MAIL program for the first time - went quite smooth, however now it's importing my 32572834264 emails dating back to 2004.
    no need for that.

I just want my new email, starting today.

can't find that option in the menu :hsd:

I use thunderbird vs mail.app. I told thunderbird to only import stuff "from this point in time forward" and it worked well. IMAP or POP connection to gmail.com?

Can't you move the stuff in your gmail folder out of the Inbox and then only have mail d/l your inbox?

why on earth would you be using POP, but not deleting mail from the server afterwards? If you want to keep in sync with the server, IMAP is a billion times better for that to begin with.

because it's gmail, 6886.823965 megabytes (and counting) of inbox space, you don't need to delete.

I understand this if they are important...like maintaining business records or something like that. But at least file them away. What kind of order is 747203947593247509324 e-mails in your inbox?

I use gmail with the imap configuration for my business e-mail and that is what I do so that it doesn't take 5 minutes to sync the folders everytime I login.

:werd: there are only a few kinds of emails with enough sentimental value to warrant keeping for 4+ years.

i've had instances where i searched for an email that i later found useful. This would have been an email that if it wasn't for the 'virtually' unlimited inbox space i would have deleted.

i am very organized. actually i only have two emails in my inbox and a total of 9 folders. the rest get archived where i never see them unless i need them.

gmail has an archive feature, you never have to see the old messages but if you need one its always there

Mail sees that as the inbox in POP

IIRC Gmail's settings had a option for now downloading old shit.

really? how could having a 4 year old email that says "hey, sup" benefit you in any way? all it does is create clutter.

dont even try to feed me some bullshit like every single email is worthwhile or meaningful. i guarantee some of that shit is probably spam too

i dont give a shit if gmail gave you a TB of space, you are the type that has 50 icons on their desktop. i can already tell you aint in your right mind with all that silly ass garbage in your location
