For stills and keep the 7D for video. A buddy of mine who writes for Gizmoto was sent a D300s + 14-24 + 18-something vr from Nikon for a month, and today I got to play around with it. Fucking killer images. FML

I still stand by my saying..
"if you can tell the difference between a canon and nikon image, then you are either full of shit, or lucky"

At low ISO I can't, but shooting in some of the panel discussions today at ISO3200 I can.

the difference is not in the images so much as the handling

I think you're more impressed w/ the lens than the camera. If thats the case, they sell adapters for Canons to fit Nikon lenses... why not just invest in that? :big grin:

If you think the D300s is nice, take a look at some images out of the D700 or D3

I don't think you are alone dude, I'd definitely like to get a D700. Nothing on Canon compares. I'd like to run a D700 and 70-200 along with the Canon gear that I already have. My out of pocket would be like 1900 for the D700 since I can get the 70-200 VR for what the 70-200 IS could sell for

I couldn't care less what I shoot with. If someone gave me a box of Pro Nikon gear, I'd sell my canon stuff. Until then, I'll use what I have and stay canon.

It's not the sharpness or feel of the lens. Honestly the Tokina 11-16 is on par with Nikon in build and glass. It was just the noise handling and ergo of that vs. the 5D2. The Nikons are very impressive, as most have exclaimed on here. Probably not enough to actually make me switch from the 7D. But, if I were going to move into the full-frame sector, it would be with Nikon since, for me, the ergo on the 5D2 is shit.

This Picture is so amazing to me. I really looked at it last night for awhile and I have been thinking about it off and on ever since. Its beauty is in the simplicity. But the meaning is beyond simple. I look at this picture and I see a lot of photons that went to a lot of metaphorical time and effort to converge on the exact spot at the exact time you merely opened a shutter. Some for thousands of years, some for millions of years and some for billions of years. And then I think about all that happening in the cosmos for all that time and consider that up until a mere few hundred years ago, mankind had no perception of how vast our universe is and how infinitesimally small our little blue marble really is. It was just 0.000000001 seconds ago on a cosmic scale that we as humans accepted as a given that the Earth was flat and the universe revolved us. People that dared speak differently were actually put to death for daring to even think of such absurdity.

Humanity has come so far in the past ~400 years in the understanding of our universe. Yet we still know so very little. I wonder how much more we will know, understand and more importantly, I can only wonder what questions we as humanity will have about our universe 400 years hence. To me, that is probably the most intriguing question.

I am so glad you are back. I am thrilled you took the time to make the effort to appeal your ban instead of just chucking this site out of your mind. I think the graciousness that you have communicated in moving on from that misunderstanding speaks volumes about the person that you are. I so very much appreciate that there are people like you a half a world away who would even think to share with the likes of a complete stranger like me such an awesome and beautiful view of life as you see it.

    Thank you for:

    The pictures.
    The technical background.
    Your commentary.
    Most importantly, your passion.

I hope to keep seeing your pictures pop up on here for years to come!

    Old picture is old.
    Nice Ultra IIs :ugh2:

Do you even shoot anymore? Or do you just drop in to say random crap and post old pictures?

And Isaac, thats the exact reason I wanted to switch. I think that Nikon currently offers the best bodies out there and, for what I want to do, they offer the best zoom lenses (14-24,24-70,70-200,200-400). The IQ, especially in low light, is just amazing.

I won't disagree. I love the ergo on my cameras and I think the Canons feel alien in my hand. That being said... I wouldn't mind having a 5D2 and all the L primes "just to have" :noes:
