    :run:

I'm scared :noes: I cant think of any reason not to buy it. i have the 17-55 f/2.8 and i love it. Its my walking around lens. But i want a nice portrait lens, and as well something with a bit of reach so i can take better candids of homeless bums and what not.

I need the fast glass cause i shoot at night and dont use flash cause i want natural light and to be inconspicuous. But i dont think i'd be able to evr use 1.4 at night cause the DoF is soooo razor thin :noes: thats the only thing that scares me.

I was also looking at the 105mm F/2.8
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/424744-USA/Nikon_2160_105mm_f_2_8G_ED_IF_AF_S.html

Its got longer range, but i'm afraid it'd be too long for portraiture work in an up close environment.

    :run: i'm scurred!

Also i wanted to get 2 pocket wizards and a Brazillion Dollar Home crumpler bag. :hsd:

sooo... thats like $1500 in toys. :wtc: Any better suggestions for better use of my money?

What's so confusing about that!? $450 for the Tamron 90mm macro, ~$1000 for the 85 1.4. Saves you $50 for next day shipping!

Why don't you do a little search in this forum for some pictures from the Tamron. There's plenty of examples from mine, Jared_IRL, Jcolman, and Bowzyr's "POS" tamron lens to prove you wrong. :o

Hell, you can probably use the Tamron as a great portrait lens and save a $1000 by *not* getting the 85mm. I'm doing a baby photoshoot with it this saturday!

    :wavey:

Are you looking at the 105mm because you want a macro lens, or because you're looking for an alternative to the 85mm 1.4?

If you want a macro lens, the Tamron is sharper and cheaper than the Nikon. It's a no brainer.

If you're looking for a portrait lens, get the 85mm 1.4. The 105mm costs what it does because of the macro capability.

I have samples ready and waiting if your need further clarification of the awesomeness that is the Tamron.

Why are you quoting me? I'm the one trying to tell him he's being dumb by thinking the Tamron is a *POS*. I have one and love it!!!

I don't think the Tamron is any sharper than the Nikon, I just think it's cheaper.

I dont want a macro lens, just a portrait lens, which is why i want the 85mm... But the problem i have is that im afraid it wont have the reach i want when i go out shooting bums or candids. :dunno:

Then why do you want the 105mm? The reach of a 105mm and 85mm isn't all that much! If you want to be a big boy and buy big toys, go b
    uy a 135 f/2 or the 200mm f/2!

There's only one 105mm 2.8. It's a macro lens. While it'll take good portraits, it's overpriced if you have no intention of using the macro capabliities.

Insofar as macro is concerned, the Tamron is sharper than the VR version of the 105mm. The older, non VR 105mm can equal the Tamron if you get a good copy.

If you want a super fast, low light portrait lens, you want the 85mm 1.4

If you're really looking for something with some reach, with a decently fast aperture and VR, you won't be happy til you get the 70-200mm 2.8

Come to think of it, the 17-55 and 70-200 would be a badass combo.

Since you're already ok with spending $1500, you minus whale just get the 70-200....
