if this is the type of grappling people claim that the "real" taekwondo has, then I am not impressed.

no but I'd definately run up and take a board from one of them and hit the other ones in the eye with it

The hair grabbing portion is really alarming.
The instructor all but gave away a more effective defense.

In his stance, his groin is open, his knees are open, his eyes, his ears (the entire face.
Why the fuck would you grab the arm with both hands and lose two of your most useful means of attack?

    eye-yah!!!

I have no problem with TKD in competition (with other similar arts)
Breaking boards is cool and all.

I really hope that guy isn't marketing that as actual self defense. I'd love to slip these people my school's business card.
I haven't been training that long, but I see a multitude of better options they are giving up on.
Some of those people are wearing darker colored belts too. Wonder how long it took them to buy those?

Anyone notice the girl with the long hair that isn't tied back? Lovely dojo practices there.

I think it's basicly a given that TKD is BS unless they kick the fuck out of each other on a regular basis.

obviously this isn't one of those schools.

I may be wrong, but it doesnt even look like takedowns half of those it seems were like more coperation then anything.

yes, the "instructors" were definitely cooperating and doing 99% of the work in those throws. Sadly I am pretty sure this is what they are marketing as the self defense portion of class. I honestly wonder what goes through the minds of the students. They practice skip kicking for points for most of the class and then when someone grabs them without cooperating they have the most difficult time fighting back. Surely something is wrong.

I think that stuff has it's uses. When you have a class of kids and teenagers who are just trying to learn the basics it gets them used to the idea. It's not like they are wanting to be cage fighters. I completely agree that the jumping/spinning/flying kicks should only be taught in some dance class, but this stuff is sorta ok. The teachers are definately letting themselves fall, which is ok with the little ones, but kinda odd since most of them were older. A couple of the throws had some basis to them, but most were pretty sloppy, made up. As long as they don't think they're going to be doing much other than tournaments, it's no big deal. I've always disliked TKD, but I try to see it for what it is.

The TKD I was doing sure was similar. 50 dollars per belt, everybody passes, sparring for 15 min a week, undisputed respect to the 14 year old black belts, screaming YES SIR to anyone with a higher rank...
