    First my background:

    19 yrs old
    6' 200lbs
    s/b/d: 350/230/425

I mainly pull sumo and I squat wide.

My current goal is to squat 600 before I graduate college (4 years).

My questions is, should I start wrapping my knees and wearing squat briefs/suit? Also, I am currently using a nylon VALEO belt (I know its not great, but it was a birthday present), should I by a decent leather belt now or can I wait a bit?

briefs are excellent. i got a pair on inzer power pants and theyre one of the best things ive ever bought for the gym. help the hips and stabilization a ton. the belt is basically for building abdominal pressure for stabilizing as long as your belt lets you push out against it without any kind of give then itll be fine. leather belts are pretty inexpensive as well i think i got one for like $15. ive never used knee wraps :(

knee wraps fucked with my head, i should use them more, its never tooo early to use gear dude. i would shop around on e-bay for soem cheap ass stuff.
600 should not be hard to achieve in two years let alone 4
I like my powerbelt from inzer, although it was sorta expensive.

No need to get chucks, I used to wrestle in high school so I wear those.

Sounds like I'm gonnna look into some briefs, wraps and a belt.

Any reason to not get a squat suit outright and start with briefs?

Most training is done with the straps down anyways, so briefs should be sufficient...

get a suit if you can aford it, or can find one on e-bay, wear it with the straps down, and it is more or less briefs.
get powerpants or a hardcore suit if you go with inzer, i would not bother witht he groove briefs and such.
If you want a bench shirt i have heard good things about titan gear for beginners, i have almost no bench shirt experience, so i dont or wouldnt know where to start as far as the shirts go.

    Back on topic...

So inzer makes decent stuff and I've also had the Metal IPF V-type squat suit recomended to me. I would like to start competing eventually so I dont want to buy just briefs now and end up buying a suit later.

Any other brands that one would recomend to use/stay away from?

most of the guys, unless injured, train raw up until a few weeks out from competiiton. This is IPF

Not really sure, I dont have a lot of time to travel to compete due to school and work at the moment so I guess which ever federation has the largest amount of comps in the southeast.

I assumed that a large portion of lifters trained raw but I've red in multiple places that if you squat wide you should look into some sort of hip support.

For all training? Or just for squat training? I figured that a shirted bencher would start a little sooner than that

all these acronyms are confusing. I'm probably gonna start training with the powerlifting club once the fall semester begins. I got too sidetracked by basketball in the spring to really worry about lifting

and gene has taken 1000lb+ in his double denim?

edit: and its just how our club trains, I personally don't understand training in gear past learning how to use it correctly

If I remember correctly one should buy briefs a few sizes too large correct?

I am starting to just barely squat some weight and I believe I should go ahead and get some briefs now to insure I don't hurt my hips from squatting wide raw.

I'm not sure about the brief sizing, I've heard people say that they wear breifs loose but nobodyd has said why.

For training you want your briefs to be loose mostly just so they are easy to get into and out of. You want them tight enought that they still provide support and keep the hips warm, but you don't want them so tight that they are really assisting your lifts in terms of numbers.

For competition, you realistically want the tightest pair you can squeeze into.
