Just noticed that the area above my cd drive is coming apart. What could be causing this and is it something that can be fixed?

I've been told by apple store employees that sometimes warping happen because people pick up their laptops with one hand and usually grab it by the CD drive end. They said it's best to pick it up with two hands always. :dunno:

holy shit, i was just going to post that. i have that problem on my macbook! i thought it wasn't going to happen because it's made of plastic and i don't pick up the macbook with one hand.

it scratches double sided dvds on the top now and i usually have to rotate the macbook at an angle to pop out a disk.
i don't want to goto the genius bar (40 minute drive) and have them tell me that they can't do anything. i'm thinking about calling apple, i wonder if they will keep my macbook for 2 weeks like they did last time, and scratch the handrest area

heres my macbook. my camera's macro closeup lense sorta makes everything looked curved, but you can see the big difference in curve that the super drive has compared to the straight lines of the macbook case.

It's where your hand rests when you are using the trac pad. You don't think after a long period of time all the weight of your arm and hand leaning on that spot won't push it in some? The only reason why mine does not do that is because I use an external trackball mouse and have for 3 solid years, no wear or warping there whatsoever.

You can even see your rear palm/arm print in the photo where the warp is.

for my macbook, that doesn't apply. it looks like a design issue

This is a 3+ yr old 17" PB that has always had an external trackball mouse and never had a hand rested on it.

Why? Do they all not have a trackpad? Any book with a trackpad is going to have an issue with the weight of an arm there.

my superdrive is mounted in a different area tht the mbp's super drive is. the mbp super drive is mounted under the handrest area.
macbooks have the drive under the keyboard and the disk ejects out the right side of the macbook

might get warpage from picking it up then, but the others are definitely related to the palm rest.

as an update to my white macbook having trouble ejecting dvds:

brought it to the apple store. of course they said that i had caused the problem. he was happy to see that i had gotten the applecare plan, but it was still under factory warranty. i also pointed to another person's macbook at the genius bar, his was also curved.

they used some type of tool (probably a screwdriver wrapped in electrical tape) and pryed open the drive a little bit, then he tested it for me. works fine...for now
