I'm getting a macbook to replace my powerbook. I am planning on ordering the white 2 ghz laptop and switching the stock hard drive with a seagate momentum drive I purchased at page computers (bigger capacity and faster - 7200rpm - something apple doesn't offer when configuring the system). I want 2Gb of RAM as well, but I don't know if there is a reason to order it seperately from another company since I can just upgrade it in the specs when I order from apple... is there a reason (speed) I should get memory seperately and then replace memory that comes with the macbook??

price them out. Will it be cheaper than the way you have it planned?

it is more expensive to buy the memory elsewhere, which is why I think that getting it from Apple is the best route to go but I wanted to make sure there isn't any faster RAM that is compatible with the Macbook that Apple doesnt offer (as is the case with the hard drive)

:wtf: they are only charging 175 for 2gigs now  It seems when i bought my macbook they were charging upwards of $400 :ugh:

btw, it seems that i bought my corsair ram for like 160-140 about ~6 months ago.

EDIT: holy mother of christ, i just checked zipzoomfly.com and a stick of 1 gig costs well over $100. :wtf: happened to the price of ram

when i just bought my laptop they wanted ~ 195 to add another gig....
you can find them all over the place for 120 for 1 gb

as for harddrive.... i could have paid ~350 to go to the 200gb
instead i ebayed the hitachi one for ~180 and still have the stock 120 to use as an external drive...
