How are the powerbook prices now with the imminent release of the much nicer MacBook?

As nice as the Macbook is, I don't really need it for anything other than writing, so a 15" powerbook will fill that bill nicely.

What's the word on prices after Macbook comes out?

powerbooks (so far) have stayed the same... i know with the imac g5's they already lowered the price.. so we'll see what happens on the pb's, but I imagine for a pro machine like that they'll keep it the same because a lot of pro apps aren't intel-optimized and pro people wait FOREVER to switch over.

i would say get a macbook if you're doing basic things on it, the cost is the same as an equivalent powerbook, but a HELL of a lot faster.

17" imac g5 is sold out. 15" powerbooks are shipping until supplies last.

You don't need a PowerBook to write. Get an iBook.

If your primary use is going to be word processing, an iBook should suit you fine. If you are going to spend the cash, get the MacBook to help future proof yourself.

powerbooks are significantly (like oh, $350) cheaper at most campus resellers (if you are a student / know a student / can pretend to be a student)
