    Hi,
Wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing or knows what's going on with my Powerbook. I kept hearing a metallic clicking sound every once in a while coming from my laptop -- almost like something was snapping in there. I took it to the Apple store because my computer was having issues starting up and they replaced the hard drive (for $300). BUT, I still hear the clicking sound. I took it back to them and because I can't make the computer do the clicking sound on demand, they won't do anything about it.
Has anyone else had this happen?? My computer seems to be running fine now, but I'm just worried that it'll have a meltdown soon.
    Thanks!

Althought not an powerbook, my iBook's hdd makes such noises..
I'd refer to it as a 'clunk' though.
It's defiently on the way out.

If your noise is more like a clunk then I'd start backing up.

Yeah, your HD is going to make some noises but if you are hearing clunks and other mechanical noises that seem irregular to you, I would start backing up your hard drive because it is probably going bad.

The "crack" is the hinge. Loosen it up and put a drop of oil in the hinge to stop it.

It's allllllllll over the Apple Discussions forum.
