USB ports act as inputs and outputs as well as a power source.

If I plug in my laptop to the USB on my car could that power my laptop?
Could I play music files directly from my laptop?

powering the laptop, i totally doubt it

playing music off of it..i wouldn't count on that either. just get an 8gb flash or 2.5" external hard drive

No need for a drive, I have an iPod, the music thing just popped into my head as I was making the post.

I was just thinking - if that would provide power for the laptop then there's no need for any power adapter for the car .... just looking at the manual and it refers me to the manufacturer website so ..... checking it out.

so let me get your question straight. You are wondering if you can power your laptop off of usb port that is located on your car stereo?

if that is what you are ask then: NO you can not. usb ports only put out 5 volts and most laptop power supplys feed 12 or 18 volts into the the computer to power it. Also I don't belive they make a Large usb male to large usb male cable. I have looked for them and I can not find them except for hand made.

and, just looked at the Sony site, it only lists flash-drives.
Doesn't list Lexar or anything over 1GB but my 2GB Lexar works. And my 60GB ipod (though taking a bit to read) works as well (but then it has a connection for iPod)

No A to A cable for home?
