power antenna troubles

Discussion in 'OT Technology' started by ShArKy's_IsLaNdRaVe, Aug 20, 2002.

  1. On my '86 Lincoln Town Car, I couldn't extend or retract the antenna mast which is operated by a swich on the dashboard, next to the climate controls. (To raise or retract the mast, I have to do manually from outside the car). Could it be the fuse or the antenna's motor be defective cuz I had the entire antenna assembly/motor replaced?

The antenna assembly/motor was actually a used one purchased from the junkyard.

If you flip the switch, and hear a noise from the motor, it could be the cable is broken. If you dont hear any noises, I would go to a lincoln dealer and have them look up the diagrams for your car and make sure power is getting to that spot.

  3. I found the problem, the cable is defective. Where are the replacement antenna mast cables usually sold?

You can check any auto store, usually they carry universal replacements. Just make sure your car is listed on the back of the package. Otherwise, you can look on ebay or go to the lincoln dealer.
