I just bought a 2006 STI, I of course got it in blue but also wanted the factory gold wheels to give it that Subaru trademark blue/gold look, only problem is my dealer doesn't have any STI's with gold wheels to swap so I ended up with the silver wheels.

I'm thinking about having them powdercoated unless there is a better method. Should I get them powdercoated or another type of painting method? How much do you think something like this will cost?

What would you guys recommend? I posted ad's on NASIOC and IWSTI seeing if anyone in South Florida wants to trade their gold wheels for my silver ones, but haven't heard from anyone.

    Thanks

you should be able to have them powder coated for around 250-300$ for all 4 wheels.

Do tolerances come into play when you powdercoat wheels? I know it's only a couple thousandths on each surface, but things might start to interfere. Just something to think about.

And if you do powdercoat them get something besides the Subaru gold. Even if you want gold do it slightly different. If you're going to pay the $$$ for it people should be able to notice it. Maybe have it be slightly more metallic or do a darker/lighter gold.

trade somebody and offer cash. I personally would get another set of rims and use the bbs as spares. If you ever plan on selling your car.....close to new condition rims would bring you a higher price.

i'm not sure, but powdercoating is glossy isn't it? and the STi wheels have more of a flat gold finish right? maybe i'm wrong, but, i would say hold out to get the real thing.

on a side note, my friend powdercoated his white 06 Sti's wheels bright pink. <vomits>

make sure it is low temp powder coating.... any good powder coater would know this.

Too high of a temp with aluminum wheels = weaker wheels, or a grenade with the pin pulled.
