    Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .223 ( http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_700/model_700_SPS_varmint.asp )

    Nikon Buckmaster 4.5 - 14 x 40 with "Bullet Drop Compensator Reticle" ( http://www.scopesnmore.com/riflescopes4less/products/nikon-buckmaster-6453.htm )

Not looking for the best of the best, but that seems like a halfway decent set up for me. Gun is $529 and scope is $300 at Bass Pro. Not great prices but I don't think I'm being ripped off either...?

I'm not totally sold on the scope, hence looking around online before purchasing. I don't know much at all about them to be honest so I'm looking for some help. I'm looking to shoot out to 500 yards tops.

I despise the BDC reticle, my friend has a Monarch 8x24 or some other god awful magnification and it's impossible to line up well.

It didn't seem difficult to line up playing with the scope in the store. The guy wa spushing the BDC thing pretty hard though. Assuming you know what you're doing, the BDC seems worthless altogether. Isn't that the whole point of windage/elevation adjustments?

I would never own a scope with Nikons BDC reticle, the circles are too large and at far distances theres very little precision to it.

it's cheaper than either, especially the swift, plus it's chambered in a lot more rifles :dunno:

Nice. I do like the MilDot. The BDC just seems stupid and that's a good point about being less accurate the further out you get.

These were the main reasons. Inexpensive ammo.

Don't tempt me. I have been avoiding going (it's brand new) just so I don't walk out of there with another fucking gun.

The harvest season just ended for me so I'm without a job now. Still got one last paycheck to pick up but it's going into my Roth IRA. I missed out on the 3gun match here in town because I don't have a pistol 9mm or larger. I just took the dowel out of my old winchester 12g so now it can hold 5 shells. I told myself no more guns but I really want a Glock 19 or 26. Guess I'll wait until I see a good deal on either one of them :hs:

the 28" is $269 or so after the discount, the 18" is $299; they'd be making more money on a gun that goes on sale just as often
