Here's the setup I've come up with for the machine I'm going to build. I've done a bunch of research, but please let me know if you see anything that doesn't look right. Thanks!

    Intel P4 3.0E GHz 800 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading
ASUS P4P800 SE i865PE Chipset Motherboard
Corsair Value Select 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200 RAM
NEC 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive Model ND-2510A
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB DDR2 8X AGP Video Card
SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum Sound Card

Total cost: $1033 plus case and PSU (~$100-150). I have a HD, monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. that I'm reusing from an old machine. Thanks for your help!

I just yanked my Audigy 2 ZS. I was getting intermittent blue screens from their drivers.

I installed a Turtle Beach Catalina in its place last week and haven't had another blue screen yet.

You might also consider sticking a DVD-Rom in there too.

Makes it much faster to make back-ups of CD's and the like as you won't have to copy them to the hard drive before burning the CD or DVD that way.

I plan to yank the DVD-ROM from my old machine.
