You guys do know that your AFQT score has absolutely nothing to do with what jobs you can get, that all depends on line scores. AFQT is only used in determining enlistment eligibility.

I've been considering enlisting as a medic in a few years. Do you enjoy what you do? Any advice/words of wisdom?

I was *this* close to choosing medic as my MOS. The only reason I didn't was the long-lasting psychological toll it would take on me. The ones that didn't make it would get tough to take after a while.

The way I see it, I'd feel like I'm making a bigger difference as a medic than as infantry or something.

And I've also wanted to become a paramedic with a fire dept. for as long as I can remember. So in that respect it's a good way to gain experience.

I can deal with all of the above. I would have a hard time dealing with the death or serious disfiguring of a buddy that I provided combat care to, though. All of the "what else should I have done" kinds of questions would haunt me for life. And stuff like that is inevitable for combat medics.

The AIT is a lot easier for the prior service or already enlisted guys. Just study a lot, cuz if you fail more than two tests, you're kicked from the program. If you fail one test, you retake it again, and if you fail your retake you're dropped again too. The learning curve is a little high after the first few weeks; the first few weeks you're just learning basic life support and getting your NREMT-B certifications....after that it's all the combat medic stuff.

Well I know alot of basic first aid already from when I was a Boy Scout :)hsugh:). One of the guys who used to be in my troop got his EMT-B and he said it was cake after everything we did, so I'm covered in that aspect and usually I'm a fast learner if it's something I'm motivated towards.
