What specific things has Ford done in the last 20 or so years that makes them not suck? I'm just asking the question, not taking a side.

Outside of the US they have done quite a bit. Although some of the ideas and building behind the cars wasn't 100% Ford, they ended up with their name on the cars. Just a few ideas off the top of my head

    Escort Cowroth
    Focus RS
Basically anything from this webpage (http://www.fpv.com.au/index.asp?link_id=2)

For the people in the US:
    Ford GT
    '03/'04 Cobra motor

Owning Jaguar, Aston Martin, Lincoln and Volvo is pretty good. The rest of their brands I don't see as being any better then the rest. Maybe Land Rover for what they are, although I'm not a huge fan.

Because the question wasn't directly asked about cars, I can say they have Ford Field now (awesome facility the Detroit Lions play in)...:wiggle:

Staggered exhaust ports = more power

but chevy matched this in the LS1 so fuck it. :dunno:

  5. Ford doesn't suck because in comparison with recalls, ford has had nearly no major recalls for any of their, for example, 2000 model vehicles. Look at pontiac/chevy's very long list of recalls for their 2000 model vehicles in comparison to fords.

Not to mention, my family has owned many fords which have exceeded 180,000 miles and run on original engine/tranny with no major problems or rebuilds. '97 ford aerostar, '93 ford thunderbird, '71 ranchero, '78 thunderbird, '94 ranger, and a '95 mustang. All of these cars have had over 180k, the '93 thunderbird has 220,000 with it's 5.0L same as the '95 mustang's engine and it still runs perfect.

Ford's prices are also very good in comparison to other cars.

Ford's trucks are very good, they are widely used in businesses and corporations, and are the #1 selling vehicle for many years, with no other car/truck even coming close in sales.

Ford's build quality has been improving a lot lately, still not great, but definately improved! 5 years ago I would have NEVER considered a Ford, now 2 out of my last 4 vehicles have been Fords.

my current 99 Cougar and my old '01 Mustang GT were both put together much better than my '02 Z28

I'm not looking for a fight but I've noticed the exact opposite with Fords and Chevys. My family has had 2 fords and they were pieces of shit. All of the chevys we've owned lasted much longer and had hardly any problems other than alternators, batteries, radiators. Even with my friends cars only two of my friends had a solid Ford which still run today. Although I'll give their truck dept. much more credit.

  13. Everyone gets lemons, there is no getting around that fact. Many people get honda's that are also pieces of junk. No car is exempt from at least some people getting a shitty one. If you buy a car used, you have no clue how well that person took care of the car either. And if you buy the lowest model that a company makes you can't expect it to be very good.

For example, if i base all my assumptions on how good chevy is off a group of cavaliers, that wouldn't be a very good argument. However, I'm basing what I think of GM off of my family's bad experiences with pontiacs/chevies/cadillac/buick. My family goes through a alot of cars, simply because they like changing around sometimes.

I'd say their racing history and involvement. They need an entry in SCCA and LMP besides the Panoz, and they've covered almost all forms.

The reason you see so many Ford trucks in commercial uses is price. They don't put as much standard stuff on their trucks, so a base truck is cheaper. When a large business or the government buys trucks, they are put out for bid. When that happens, it comes down to price.

One more point: If you add Chevy and GMC sales together it is equal to (and some years exceed) Ford truck sales.

  24. So what? You can't add seperate company's sales together to make a comparison against another, that's simply nonsense.

So Ford is selling as many Chevys+GMC's. That's still an argument claiming that Ford makes more sales than either Chevy or GMC alone.

  25. Well, first of all... The cobra uses a supercharged engine because it keeps cost down, notice that it costs 20 grand less than the corvette, and as far as the Cobra R goes, it was a very decent competitor. The '03/'04 models may not handle as well as the Cobra R, but they are a slight bit faster.

Notice also that the Corvette Z06 loses 60hp to the wheels, making roughly 345hp and the cobra loses only 40hp making 360hp. The Cobra also weighs a considerable amount more, hence the performance difference.

The 302's are great engines, a 1993 Thunderbird is in my family (everyone uses it) with over 200,000 miles on it. The car is on it's stock transmission and engine, never been rebuilt, never left us anywhere anytime. It's also been subject to many "neutral drops" and full throttle treatment quite often. The thing is a beast, and it handles damn well with the right set of struts installed.

The first GT40 used a 289ci engine which made 390hp.

It's all in what a company wants to do, Ford *could* put one of their monster crate engines in a car, but they'd have to charge a considerable amount of money for it. And less people buy cars which are out of the common person's price range.

I personally have never had any problems with any Fords, yet I have had problems with pontiacs and friend's pontiacs.

Notice how many Fords are in the Top 10 sellers for each year list :) I believe it was 2000 or 2001 where they had five in the top ten, being the ranger, focus, taurus, f150, and crown vic?

Chevy has just one, the silverado, which still isn't very close to the F150's sales.

Sometimes price does matter, and for the extra cost of a chevy you're simply not getting anything worthwhile.

And drivers of an '03 Cobra realize they're saving 20 grand on buying it rather than a corvette, which could be invested in making the '03 Cobra wipe the floor with a vette.
