Been bulking since late October...stayed a lot leaner than last time and pretty much got back to where I was strength/size-wise last year. So now I'm gonna diet, but do it a lot smarter (ie basically more calories, less cardio).

You should maintain for awhile before cutting. I told you that last time.

you already have a long torso, and the fact a good proportion of it are your abdominals gives a strange appearance. i know we all aren't pro BBers here, but also your waist is fairly wide in relation to your shoulder width. but then again thats just my opinion:hs: perhaps you could just build up shoulder width to overpower that

interesting you mention that. about how long of a time period would you suggest for maintenance? i recently bulked, got slighty pudgy (more than my comfort zone) so naturally with my impatient nature i started to diet down immediately. i cut about 1000cals, shifted 15-20% carbs to proteins/fat for the past month. all of which has resulted in a 3-4lbs weightloss and a return to my normal bf%. but now im looking to rebulk to perhaps 170 and would like ur input on this maintenance period

Here is what Bryan Haycock suggests:

The solution is to begin your cardio before you begin your diet. In fact, to optimize the amount of food you can eat and still lose fat you must ramp up your cardio and increase your caloric intake at the same time to prevent any drop in bodyweight for the first two weeks as least. This way you will be eating a lot of food just to maintain bodyweight. This makes the body much more sensitive to reductions in calories/carbs.

If you’ve left yourself plenty of time to get ready for this future photo shoot or event, take about 4-6 weeks to slowly increase you calories until your bodyweight stabilizes at a higher weight. This generally happens after a 5-8 pound gain. You may feel fat doing this but it is all preparatory to "better dieting". So once your bodyweight has stabilized at a higher point, slowly introduce your cardio. Be careful not to let your bodyweight drop during this 2-4 week period. Try to consume lots of carbs and lean protein to maintain weight. Guys can get away with a slight increase in fat intake as well. Remember, we are not trying to get fat, only to maintain bodyweight and muscle while introducing cardio into our training.

Once you’re doing as much cardio as you are ever going to do during your diet, slowly begin to reduce the amount of carbohydrates in the diet. If you’ve done it right, you will be consuming tons of carbs before you even begin to diet. All of this allows you to play with your carb intake at a much higher level than you could if you had cut them right at the beginning. I have also seen that people will lose fat consuming many more carbs than usual when taking this approach.

all throughout my bulking, i did tons of shoulders...i devoted an entire day to it. about six sets of shoulder presses, front raises, upright rows, and probably ~150 lateral raises as well. i'm also gonna swim twice a week on my cutting plan, so that should help shoulder width hopefully...but yeah, i fucking HATE my shoulders

With a specialization routine you work a bodypart multiple times per week while reducing your volume for the rest of the body.

i bet you are one of those undercover brollies, if you wear normal clothes and someone see's your face they are gonna think you are nothing but a skinny punk.

but they'll be in for a surprise, although you might not even be able to fight...

    excuse the drunken rambling please

well that's basically what my cutting routine will be...one day of shoulder work and two days of swimming...and less volume on the rest of my body. so we'll see...maybe i added some girth to my shoulders during this bulk and it'll start to show up as i cut :o
