I am pretty sure I am going to pick up a RRA Elite CAR A4. does anyone have any suggestions or warnings against buying this gun as a first AR-15?

Just make sure you get one with the optional chrome lined bore and chamber.

The advantages of chrome lining are:

Longer life. Instead of being done for at 7k rounds, a barrel will last you 16k at least.
Easier cleaning. Less fouling of the barrel, and FAR easier removal of the fouling that does occur.
