I had my cartilige pierced about 2 months ago, and it healed up pretty well. I took off the piercing earring last night because I was going to have some family over, and didn't notice anything except a little more pain than usual.

I went to put it back on today and it looks like the piercing is closed up and there's some hard bone-like stuff around it, and it's pretty painful when I squeeze it.

I'll head over to the clinic tomorrow unless there's something I can do to make this go down?

Thanks everyone.. I'd take a pic but I lost the cable :o

why did you take it out? If it wasn't healed you shouldn't be fucking with it.

It's healed. It's been like ~10 weeks since I got it.

Cartilage doesn't heal all that fast. if there was pain still then it's not healed.

:hsugh: Cartilage takes 3-8months to heal, not 10weeks. If it's closed up already then it obviously wasn't healed.

I said there was pain, as in there was pain from the possible keloid I hadn't seen :hs: I had no problem sleeping with it uptil a few nights ago, but didn't think anything of it :dunno:

Edit: So closing up entails a hard bump forming on the pierced area?

Keloids don't hurt. They're just built up scar tissue.

Hypertophic scaring hurts, irritated swelling hurts.. Keloids are just lumps of tissue. I know, i have had a few.

Closing up MAY entail that bump as in you have a keloid formed on there.

Try a paste of aspirin and water on it 2x daily see what happens. if it doesn't shrink then go see a dermo

Was this done at a piercing studio or by a 16yo at the mall? :hsugh: A proper piercing studio would have told you how long it takes to heal.

Some "proper" jewelry store, but IIRC it was done with a gun :o

Doesnt matter how pretty the environment was...being pierced with a shitty gun usually comes standard with shitty aftercare instructions. Cartilage can be a real bitch to heal. As a side note for future reference, I guarantee that gun hurt a ton worse than the needle would have. For a little extra money, you get a more comfortable piercing from a professional piercer, complete aftercare instructions and valuable education. Im sorry you're having such a shitty experience.

I was wasted so I just did it to get it over with .. not much pain was experienced :o Anywho, I'm letting it close up since I cant push the damn earring through anymore. If it gets any larger I'll take it up with a dermatologist. Thanks everyone.

    .

if you decide to get it repierced, go to a professional piercer who will use a needle and do a much better job. i had less trouble with my cartilage piercing from a tattoo/piercing parlor than i did with my second and third lobe piercings done in a mall.:o

Seriously I don't understand why people think it's ok to take out jewellery before the piercing has healed! I would never ever.

I almost walked out on a sinus scan because he wanted me to take my daith out. Fuck that.
