First real time using the studio with a human subject.

I was happy with most but I'm sure there is much room for improvement. Let me know what's good and what's bad :)

    Very nice.

    You need a better watermark.

    Thank you.

It's just my default and smugmug puts it on them when I link them, easier than rehosting everything without a watermark.

I don't love it either, but I don't know what I like :dunno:

    I don't like watermarks :hs:

You should avoid pictures like 1 and 3 that accentuate her right eye being a bit lazy. Not that she isn't beautiful, but right now you are doing her a disservice. Also, were you using strobes? If so, make sure to get some light on the background because right now it's going a bit warm and to me at least it's distracting, especially with her shirt/hair/skintone being brown and warm it makes the whole image super warm.

Also, on the last one did you artificially put the background in that is to the left of her? I'm seeing a weird line right next to her.

One thing I am liking about your work is using large apertures. It seems like a lot of new studio photographers set everything at f/16 which to me at least can make things boring.

She has a nice smile but do her some justice by getting different facial expressions, not juts all smiles. Giving her props for actually having a real smile. A huge pet peeve of mine is looking at models with fake smiles.

Another thing to look out for is lighting ratios. Right now all of your images are all pretty flat. If you're using two strobes both at f/11, try bumping one of the strobes down to f/8 or f/5.6 to actually create some shadows. Right now it's just super flat lighting which doesn't really do much, especially if the background is equally lit.

I'm looking at #5 and it looks like you have two light sources both pretty close to each other. Mix it up dude! Make one of them a fill light on her very right or very left.

Hope this helped, and you did a way better job than I did my first time in a studio.

The necklace ruins it IMO. Everything else I like, but that's gotta go. I like where you were headed with 8. :)

I'd say lose all the jewellery. I find it distracting...especially when you pose the hands close to the face like in #1.

I think if you were have her wear a lighter colored shirt, the pictures would pop more.

When you look at her skin, it's pretty bright, but when you look at her shirt, it just swallows all the light.

The shirt color and make up is all wrong for her eyes.

Definitely a good suggestion, thank you.

    :bigok:

    in your dreams son

    thanks :)

    great advice, thanks a lot.

The reason I was shooting at 2.8 and 3.5 was that the lighting in the studio isn't really that good at all. It's two cheap hot lights with umbrellas. Even with both lights at full power I still had to shoot at ISO 400 and f/2.8 to get 1/250 of a sec. I also had my SB600 in a soft box just bouncing around the room.

I wanted to get a good feel for things this time, but next time I'll definitely mix it up a bit :)

    thank you!

I agree, if I had more light I would definitely use one on the bg

    :naughty:

    thanks, its my background :)

she liked it? this was not planned at all, she just came down for the weekend and only had 1-2 outfits. next time I want her to wear a different color, brown isn't my favorite for her.

    agreed

    I agree, thanks :)

I agree with the shirt, but what's wrong with the make-up? I don't know much about it

    thanks :)
