What if dumb fucking bullshit like this, or Dave Hill becomes normal? What if ridiculous fucking noobs keep sack riding him and we end up being labeled as old fashioned photographers and get less work because for some reason there's lithium in the water and people think that HDR or making a photo look like it was airbrushed on a shirt is somehow better than real photography?

I'm taking a portrait advanced lighting class for fun right now.

I'm going to do HDR portraits for the rest of the quarter...

I'm going to get an A!

Most are bad portraits, but i did see some really good ones in there. They didnt look very HDR though...maybe thats why they were good.

I could be taking a picture of Jessica Biel's bald snatch, it doesn't matter if I then ruin it in photoshop.

some of them looked more like the dragan effect more than HDR....

the problem is HDR is most people do not use it properly, or use it to try and spice up a bad picture.

I don't get why the hate is there? Is HDR like cheating your way to a good photo? Why can't it be just another way to be creative in PP?

btw this if the first i'm hearing of HDR so i'm not taking sides, just trying to understand.

Dave hill is not bad..hell he's pretty fucking good! its the people that belive a typical HDr like effect will save a shitty picture..at least he comes to his pictures with a plan, sets up some really good lighting and works on real good stuff.

No, there's no good photo involved. It's just ruining a possibly good photograph and dazzling noobs into thinking that's what good photography is. It's like animated gifs on websites, everyone does it at first, but you hope they grow out of it, and some people lucky enough to have common sense and taste never do it at all.

HDR has an application, but it's a very narrow application that should only be used a fraction of the time AND only enough to create a photo that you can't really identify as HDR.

    I like your logic.

most people fail to realize that dave hill actually has a complicated lighting set up to help achieve what he's doing.... I don't care for his "look" but appreciate all the thought and time that goes into creating each image.
