    Portfolios

How does one build a portfolio?

Is having a website the same thing as having a portfolio?

What pictures and how many should you include in your portfolio?

I had a chance this past weekend to hopefully get involved in taking pictures of a documentary film making, but when he asked to send him my portfolio, i was like oh...i don't have one built up (like an idiot) and he looked at me like .... allrighty then.

so help me prepare for the next opportunity. :wiggle:

Shooting situation you don't have pictures of is well, obvious, it might also be good to have lots of different subjects of the things you are good at, and what you are trying to market yourself as being good at...

If a portfolio is supposed to sell you, as x type of photographer, don't have pictures of y.

And by definition a portfolio is just a book with things in ti relevant to what you are trying to express, a website works if you are presenting to an audience on a web, prints or a presentation of some sort in person.

    print portfolio > online.

Show you are serious, drive 5 hours if you have too.

having the photo actually there in front of you is so much better than some editors 17inch crt.

Ideally you need both an online portfolio and a print portfolio. I take an album of 12-15 -8x10's to every meeting even though the clients have already looked at my website. I'm also working on producing a printed album that will look a lot slicker than my current one.
