Haven't used it, but I've been thinking about getting this.

you can also buy just the conversion case and put your own HD in it. That's what I did with an old 40g laptop drive I had... it was like $35 to turn it into an external USB drive. Worked great, and when I came across a 70g drive I dumped the 40g onto my PC, swapped the drives, and dumped all the data back on the 70g.

you can direct connect to the archos AV500 without an adapter or anything. you can also do everything you can do on an ipod including watch movies. They have a 100GB version, but I've only got the 30GB. That's plenty for me though.

I thought they were a little cheaper than that, but maybe I'm wrong. Try searching for a used one perhaps? I love this thing, I'm a techy gadget kind of person but I've never used anything (including my ipod) as much as I've used this thing. I record TV shows on it, listen to music, watch movies, keep pics on it, use it as an audio recorder for open mic nights, blah blah blah.

much more reasonable on ebay i think.
