I am on a campus network in my dorm room, i am connected to a ethernet socket vie ethernet cable, is there any way that i could forward a port. Or will i have to contact the IT people on campus to get one forwarded to me.

Also is there an application that would graphically show you a a schematic(tree) of how i am connected to the internet.

And If i sound like a dumbass, please enlighten me so that i might learn.

Forward a port?? You mean have a port forwarded to you?? Like you want to put up a server that listens to port 6969 and all sorts of people will upload pron to your dorm computer?

Then yes you'll have to contact your network admin to get that port forwarded to your system. However, they are not likely to enjoy you running a porn site from your dorm room....unless you give them some.

Campuses usually have 1 or more lines to the internet and you are more then likely behind a router....even if you don't realize it.

they most likely blocked that port on purpose, my school does. there’s most definitely no way you're going to be able to download torrents on your school network.

i have not heard of a school actually making accomidations for torrent downloading due to the vast majority of torrent traffic being illegal.

there is an 90 percent chance that you won't be able to get this done. Especially on a school network.

Last year I managed to make it work. I'm trying to remember what exactly I did.

I might have had to manually find the router's IP and work from there.

If I figure it out I'll post.

Don't bother. This is both illegal, and a violation of forum rules. Read the sticky at the top of the forum.

If you post, I will request a ban. Simple as that.
