    Code:
    <script type=text/javascript>
       alert("Hello World");
    </script>

    In between your <head> and </head> tags.

    Well, if I want to let people who visit my site something like a time it will be down, this seems like a perfect choice for letting them know. They can't ignore it.

    When it runs the title of the message box is "[Javascript Application]"
    How do I change that?

    I don't think you can change the title of a dialog box. Sorry. :wavey:

    Not unless you create your own, anyway. :dunno:

    just put a banner at the top saying its under construction. Popups like that will piss people off and won't come back.

    im assuming he didn't, because if he did, he wouldn't be asking how to do what's already on that page?

    Haha well a couple of things.
    It got past my Firefox pop up blocker and also AdBlockPlus.
    Also it's not my site. I saw that on www.computerforum.com I believe and was a little intrigued. I also happened to visit the MSI site the day before newyears and they had one of those things going... except for every page you visited. THAT was freaking anoying as hell.

    They're annoying, period. Go to any web development website that actually makes money and I guarantee there will not be a popup of that manner. People associate popups with ads and unwanted advertising which is a huge turnoff if you're trying to sell your product or service. The only type of popup that I've ever heard of that helps rather than hurts conversions is an exit popup with a special deal or exit survey as to why they didn't convert.

    Guys, he's talking about using alert(), not window.open. Yes, alert's are annoying, but pop-up blockers associate windows.open with the annoying advertisements pop-ups, not alerts. Which is why it went through his pop-up blocker. Bad terminology on him calling it a "pop-up", because that isn't what it is. I do believe there are better ways to go about this, and alerts should be used very carefully, and in most cases I believe they should only be used in production environments only.
