i was thinking that it would be good as a GMC becasue, it could be a new truck for them, it would be offered in many forms all the way from a stripped down work truck to a limited production SSV. it just seems like if it was a pontiac it was be treated the same way the GTO was, no options, no models, pick a color and call it a day? but then agian i could be wrong, this is just what i see from what GM has done?

on the other hand tri has a point that, it is a muscle car and GMC might try to water it down too much, and the fact that Pontiac already has the body panels for it on the G8 would make it a easier deal? so i donno? either way, it just needs to get the across the ocean ASAP.

    :dunno: whats your take?

ya but they have quite a redneck rep now so GM kinda wants to keep away from that image, but they (GM) put it as "chevy already has too many cars in its showroom" be we know the real reason.

    I vote Pontiac.

The Ute is a muscle car that can haul whatever you put in the back. It's not a dedicated work/tow vehicle which is what GMC is traditionally known for. Pontiac is known for performance, and that's arguably what the Ute does best. If the Ute was marketed the same way here as it is in Australia Pontiac would be the best fit. Emphasize both the sport and the utility, the ultimate sport utility.

Pontiac is already selling the sedan model of this car, and the hood and facia already exist to make it into a Pontiac. The Ute could easily be added as another G8 body style. G8 sedan, G8 sport utility, G8 touring (a new Commodore wagon/hatch is in the works). It would be a little strange to see the same car in the same dealership with the same interior but a different badge.

GMC is positioned as the "Professional Grade Truck" brand, selling a car via GMC may send the wrong message about what this car can and can't do. GMC will also be selling the Canyon with a V8 soon. GMC is also a good selling brand, it doesn't need a shot of excitement. Whereas Pontiac needs all the performance hardware it can get to elevate the brand.

  5. Pontiac.

GMC sells trucks. They need to focus on that rather than dilute the brand with other types of vehicles.

caballeros always had a GMC badge. I say GMC as to have some sort of answer to the SSR. A denali option could be available; however, some sort of SS version would be more in tune with this vehice. I don't really place this as a "luxury" vehicle, therefore denali may be out of line. the reason i'm against pontiac is the possibility of the mindset of "well, we've thrown all the other shit over there, why not this too?" i think it may very well cheapen the image that pontiac has rebuilt. the g6 and solstice are great intros in the lineup, and GM already threw a shitbox over there in the G5. i just don't think this would fit.

    Those are amazing photochops, TriShield.

I think GMC should sell the Ute. It's the more respectable of the two brands, especially when it comes to anything resembling a truck. (Pontiac Aztec, anyone?)

The Canyon already got the 5.3L V8... so that takes care of your syclone/typhoon req. Granted it's not boosted, but I'm sure it'll haul balls.

You could at least try to entertain the question, "which of these two is more preferable than the other", not "is it your favorite car of all time".
