Just got a new job & need to get a reliable car at a reasonable price that I don't need to be ashamed of taking coworkers to lunch in. Of the following options/costs, what is OT's favorite?

    Yaris: 34/40 mpg
    2.5i: 22/28 mpg
    2.5RS ??/?? mpg

whats the price point that you want to be under?

If you want to be able to take co-workers to lunch and not be ashamed, none of those will really cut it. Look at a 4cyl/5spd Accord or Camry, they can be had new under 20k

Have you seen the new Imprezas? They are definitely quality, and pretty sleek looking to boot. I don't know if I can give up the AWD for these minnesota winters (and the occasional rally).

I'm not saying they aren't. I'm saying its a kids car. If you're worried about impressing co-workers and looking professional and shit, any compact is not going to cut it. Move up to a mid sizer, if AWD is a necessity, look at the Legacy. I could have gotten a 2.5i for 21k out the door.

agreed on previous comments, if you want to impress in an affordable car, i would look into a secondhand camry, accord or even a maxima. all three are reliable, can be had under $20k, and will make you look better taking your colleagues to lunch than the cars you listed.

I don't have a suggestion for car now, but what do you do? Are you in sales or something that deals with clients? If not, fuck what your coworkers and seniors think about the car you drive. Making a decision on what car to buy to impress your co-workers duing lunch is retarded. You working in a Nazi IBM company or something?

Buy it for the right reasons,

sales/haul clients around: need a comfy back seat
    economy: tons of cars
sporty: the rex is a good choice

What do you drive now? What's wrong with that?

Ended up getting a helluva deal on a mid-90s accord in excellent condition. Maybe get a newer car down the road.

:dunno: I wouldn't give two shits about what people thought if I was getting 36mpg on average. Shit I drive a BMW and I would love to have one of these buggers to daily drive.

What is your primary concern? Impressing other people... lower cost to buy... best gas mileage?

    "almost new" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> new

you're avoiding a lot of depreciation by not buying brand new.

also, with the yaris you're getting a 15,000 car for 15,000. RS you're getting a 20,000 dollar car for 13,000 dollars! Subaru = very solidly built and reliable... subaru will stay "cool" a lot longer. Yaris isn't even cool right now I don't think.. haha.
