Got some better pics
hope you like em
but its still an XD.. ya know the old saying cant polish a turd
Good pics. Still don't like it though.
meh its ok
im just gald you liek the pics
i'm kind of thinking of doing it to my g19
looks like a pimps gun...
but seriously - will it fade over time? and is it easy to clean...?
I want a stainless slide would be cool to do another slide with a 9mm barrel so I could just switch back and forth.. dont know where you get parts though
he said it wouldnt but think about it he could just buff it again ya know?
cleaning takes a cotton or terry cloth rag or a dress shirt lol
you mean like a completley different top like slide spring barrel etc?
if so that would be rowdy
Uhh, that isn't stainless, is it?
You can polish metal all day long; unless it is a high grade stainless, then it'll rust like hell. You know XD's, they rust when black, right? Wonder what you're up against with no coating?
I would be happy just finding a Stainless slide for right now, but no big deal I like mine how it is.. I upgraded to a new Rod/Spring Combo and havent had a chance to shoot it yet..
That Dons Guide Rod is perty and that 22# spring is hard to get in
WTF? That was a simple question -- they aren't stainless, are they???
very cool. I still like it
and it matches your fork.
you saying all the black ones rust was why I put
Why wouldnt it be stainless?
If he'll keep posting pics about every couple of days, then it shouldn't take long to find out.
USMCsilver is 100% correct. If that isn't stainless, and it has no coating... Have fun with it.
Sure does look good though. I still (for some unknown to me reason) want to get one of those hard chromed CZ-52s. I don't own anything else flashy, they just look cool.
Very cool, i just bought an XD9 today.
No, the real question is -- Why would it be stainless? FWIW, there are few firearms out there that are made out of stainless steel and then coated. It just doesn't happen too often.
Now, IMHO, my Stainless Colt 1911 would look good if I had it polished to that degree. It is true stainless. However, I would not go that far on it, because realistically, it'll look like shit after one trip to the range.
The only way I'd go that far is if it were going to be framed and hung on the wall. Guns are for shootin', not to be used as a mirror to check your hair.
those earlier pics didnt do justice..
this pic is awesome
im no pistol expert by any means, but ive worked with steels the last 8 years... the only reasonable material for a pistol upper would be some grade of Stainless, its probably not the best grade of SS but it should be some kinda SS. the average carbon steel coating to prevent rust should be atleast 40microns that its miles to thick for the tolerances on a pistol...
but like someone said before... just handle it for a while and wait a day or two, and we shall find out soon enough
I'm going to go talk to my Materials professor about carbonitriding... See if he can do it in the materials lab
im going to try to get my gun clear coated
And then you can go to the detailing area and learn to polish and wax it.
