    i use a Uniden BC350C

its not the best out there, i wish to upgrade to one that can pick up my local police frequencies.

go to your local radio shack and see what they got, it should be cheaper than ordering online, but it will only be a basic scanner

    or you can look here:
    http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/scanners.html
mind you i have never ordered from this website, but it will give you the average pricing for the scanners they list.

also, look to see whether your city uses some kind of digital frequencies, i recommend buying a digital scanner because not all police forces use analog these days :(

also, invest in a good antenna.

  3. do these work in australia?

    i don't see why they wouldn't.

    but

i think you should read up on laws regarding radio scanners in your area and purchase a scanner from your country, our scanners nowadays come with some frequencies blocked out because it would be illegal to listen in on them, im sure the same goes for Australia, but maybe with different frequencies blocked out

  5. I suppose you spend so much time messing with your scanner it might be quicker just to drive the speed limit

    e-bay. Some are $5.00

  9. what do you use them for?

on this australian movie called the castle they had a radar and you brake immediately and then by the time you pass the police you are under the speed limit.

or do you use them if you have drugs in your car? or to know of the trouble in the area?

My radar/laser detector usually warns you a decent amount of time to slow down when on highways anyways. As far as the scanners my buddy uses his just to hear whats going on. Its quite entertaining. Anyone know of a site that lists all of the police frequency's for you area?
