Police: Mom gave teen son a gun to take revenge
    POSTED: 11:05 a.m. EST, February 8, 2007

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- A mother and her teenage son have been accused of second-degree murder, with police saying the mother gave him a gun after he lost a fight and told him to take revenge.

The name of the 17-year-old victim was not immediately released. Vanessa Johnson, 44, and Clarence Johnson, 17, have not been found, New Orleans police Sgt. Joe Narcisse said Thursday.

New Orleans, still coping with the effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, is struggling with a recent surge in violence.

The city saw nine killings in the first eight days of this year, and police last month increased patrols, set up early-morning checkpoints and rushed murder cases through the court system.

National Guard troops and state police remain in the city after being called in last summer to help fight a similar spike in violence.

In this latest murder, police said Clarence Johnson found the other teen shortly after their fight and fired several rounds, hitting him once in the abdomen, Narcisse said. The victim died at the city's trauma center.

Why are we wasting tax money rebuilding that shithole anyway?

The tax money was wasted rebuilding the Saints stadium. The city was a shit hole, is a shit hole now, and probably will be a shit hole in the future.

florida is a hotbed of multi-national history and culture.

the tax money would be better off there, being put to use for construction of shuffleboard decks.

If you're going to use millions of tax dollars to rebuild your stadium and then sell it as some miracle story the least you can do is make it to the Super Bowl. Football > education.

the "tax money" was insurance money underwritten by FEMA. they can do whatever they fucking please with it.

how much revenue do you think has been brough back into the city because of the reconstruction?

I highly doubt the revenue generated from the stadium has assisted with education and the poor.

maybe not moreso than before the damage occured but to say the revenue gained from having the location being repaired and used by NFL teams, the sugar bowl, countless conventions, etc... isn't taxed and those funds aren't actually going towards the city budget (education and the poor) is just asinine.

2nd Degree murder? Sounds pretty deliberate and pre-meditated to me. Must have gotten one hell of a plea deal.

New Orleans is a shithole, and we should have simply poured concrete in and filled it up.

No, it means I simply didn't fill it out.

Northern VA. Reston mostly. I'm very happy with where I live. Prices are a bit high for housing, but it's a nice place. And I would much rather live in VA or WV than to live in louisiana.

There...now it says nova. :noes: :run:

I was mainly trolling with what I was saying and I can see the benefit of having the stadium back, the biggest problem I have with it is how the city was portrayed. Immediately after the hurrican it was all about how the federal government and George Bush had screwed over the poor black community by not busing them out of there then not responding fast enough with trailors and relief. Then, the biggest story about reconstruction that you hear on the news is the Saints dome, with schools and everything being left in shambles, but apparently that wasn't screwing over the poor community. I think the whole situation is screwed up.

dc is the chocolate city with vanilla suburbs per parliament. Per colbert it's got a marshmallow center with a graham cracker crust of corruption.

The problem with New Orleans - no matter what you think of the residents and politics surrounding it - is that nature does not want a major city in that region, nevermind permanent human settlement in general. The site of New Orleans will sink about 3 feet every hundred years, and the coastal marshlands will disappear at a rate of dozens of square miles per year. Rebuild the levees all you want to; the lake/seawater will get higher no matter what you do and the storms will get more intense without coastal mashlands to dampen the storm surges and weaken the storm.

In hindsight, New Orleans and most settlements in southeast Louisiana are poorly situated.

Building an entire coastal city below sea level FTL.

It's just like the most important thing I ever learned in geography: Don't build your house on a fucking floodplain.
