Police: Men fired AK-47 at deputy 08:32 AM CDT on Monday, September 3, 2007 By Adrienne M. Cody / 11 News Raw video from the scene Four men are in custody, accused of firing at an off-duty Harris County deputy with an AK-47. The assault rifle is illegal to possess. Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday the men were in a truck when they pulled over on a bridge on Aldine Mail Route. The off-duty deputy was working security and in uniform at an industrial business on East Hardy. "Some males, we believe, were joyriding, drinking -- took shots into the general direction of the deputy," Harris County Sheriff's Department spokesman Mario Quintanilla said. The deputy took cover and called for help, giving police a description of the vehicle. Other deputies in the area pulled the truck over. Quintanilla said another smaller calibur handgun was found in the suspects' truck. The deputy wasn't hit or hurt. "He believes there were at least 10 to 12 shots," Quintanilla said. ib10/22orSKS So when did Tx pass an assault weapon ban?
