Do you always use one when shooting in bright light situations? What are the pros and cons?

darkens sky and increases saturation, reduces glare, condenses tonal range slightly, but

cuts the light by 1-2 stops, wouldn't use them on wide angles, they'll vignette a cheep lens or they won't provide even coverage of the sky, you'll end up with a gradated sky. also darkens the viewfinder and reduces AF performance.
