Do you just place the gun in your pocket or do you have a holster the gun is in and place both in pocket?

Holster + gun for pocket carry for me. I'm not taking the risk of an accidential trigger pull, even if nothing else is in the pocket.

A holster is needed to cover the trigger, keep the gun upright and in the proper position, break up the outline/print, etc

    Ahern makes a pocket holster.
Mine was bought at a gun show by a leatherworker named Andrews

Pocket holsters are the way to go for regular or daily carry. My Glock 26 rides inside a Don Hume leather pocket holster, while my S&W model 60, 2" rides in one of those soft, synthetic, neoprene looking pocket holsters.

I wouldn't hesitate to drop a "naked" revolver in my pocket for a minute or two to take the trash out, or some other quick jaunt outside, but not for carrying around for any length of time.

Definitely use a pocket holster. Trigger covered and in the same place everytime are what counts. I have a HBE Leatherworks for my P32 and a cheapy UM for my PM9 until I remember to order something nicer.

I use a cheap galco for my jframe. Works great and only $20 iirc. Desantis makes a really popular one too.

I use a Mika for my PF9. Be ready for a 3-4 month wait to get one.

I have a double/single carry with a safety, I keep it in my pocket on the rare occasion that I carry it. I'd like to get an IWB sometime though.

I didn't need a lefty, but he had a good pocket holster for my PF-9 that works great, and deifnately reduced printing. stable, and clicks in for security. Worth a look.
