I will be in S.F. and L.A. by the end of this month and I am looking for a good store to buy my first DSLR.

Any tips? Thanks in advance. :)

If you're in SF, check out Calumet.

Samys is one of the better SoCal camera stores. I frequent the one in Santa Ana.

if you go to the store in LA (on Fairfax), the prices vary depending on the sales person you interact with. There's this one old white dude, glasses, and a heavy accent. That bastard always tries to highball me on prices. For example, I got a camera bag from them. He quoted me $140 and gave me a :squint:. I gave him a :ugh: and looked around some more. Later I asked a younger dude about the bag. He said that he can give it to me for $130. Then I told him I don't like the color of the bag. since it was the last one, he dropped it another $15. :o

Keeble Shuchat Photography in Palo Alto is a HUGE set of stores, they have two big stores one on each side of the street, most of the help is really smart and helpful and I have not found them trying to upsell me on anything stupid or trying to convince me to buy anything I wouldn't need.

In San Francisco there is Adolf Gasser
    http://www.gassers.com/
I have only picked up a filter here once (since I live right next to KSP and they always have everything I could ever need in stock) but I stopped in once before I lived out here and was visiting and had an issue with my D70 and they attempted to clean the sensor for me for free, which in my opinion was a pretty awesome thing todo. If you go there they have parking across the street like 200 feet up the road, so pretty easy to get to.

Only two places I have liked while I have been out here.

    Samy's on Fairfax FTMFW. HEAVEN!
True story about the salesman though, i think you'll find a different price with each person. The guy I dealt with on the 4th floor (kinda looked like a greaser from the 50's) was very nice and got a good price on my goods.
