A&P Please explain burning in PS!!!

    I hear alot of people that use burning in photos, what is it and how does it effect the photo?? Examples like before after would be greatly appreciated!

    It's just the burn tool. Basically, it "burns" the image.

    It's good for darkening spots of the image, especially if you think one particular spot is overexposed or could use more depth.

    dodge and burn are film printing terms. dodging is blocking light from the enlarger on a spot on the print to change the exposure on that spot, burning is letting it expose more in a certain area.

    also

    a soft light layer painting with black or white > photoshop's dodge and burn tools

    I burn all of my images without ever using the burn tool :run: ...

    new layer>change blending mode to overlay>change opacity to 80%>paint with black or white brush on low opacity

    When I used it, I always thought thats what the burn tool did, since it made that part of the image darker, depending if I were doing shadows, highlights, etc.. Oh well, i'm a photography noob, so :dunno:
