    Hey,

I'm going to be building myself a new machine, and this is what I have planned:
Cooler Master Praetorian 730 [Black] [Comtec.ca]
    Sceptre 19" X9G-Gamer LCD Monitor [Black] [Tigerdirect.ca]
    Asus A8N-E [ShopLci]
    AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4GHz L2 1MB, ADA4000BNBOX [NCIX]
    MAXTOR DiamondMax 10 200GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB 9MS
    Corsair DDRPC3200 [400] 512Mb [ShopLci]
Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy2 Value [ShopLci]
    Saitek Eclipse Keyboard [NCIX]
MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 (Already owned)
    Liteon DVD+/-RW [Black] *SOHW1693S* -DL- 16X [ShopLci]
Asus ATI Radeon 9600XT (Already owned... will upgrade next year?)

How does this look? Any comments/thoughts? My budget was $2000CDN, this will cost about $2100 and will be used mostly for gaming & graphic design.

Lastly, if I can't get my hands on that monitor, what major brand LCD do you recommend for gaming? And, is it worth it to shell out a few extra bucks for PC3500 and increase my FSB speed?

    Thanks!

One big problem is that motherboard, as most new ones use PCI Express video cards, and your old card is a AGP. You'll either need to get a older motherboard or one with a different chipset, but the best idea is to get a cheap PCI-E card for the time being. You could offset the cost by using the motherboards onboard audio instead of getting the SB for now.

Also, swap the DVD-RW for a NEC, BenQ, or Plextor if you have the cash.

Oh true yeah I forgot my vid card was AGP, thanks for the heads up. :big grin: I would have been assfucked there. Oh well I can skip the 4000+ with 1mb cache, use onboard audio and just get an X800.

Lite-On's DVD burners are not what their old CD burners were and haven't been getting nearly as good of reviews as the others in the same price/feature/compatibility ranges.

BenQ 1640, NEC 3540, Pioneer A09/109, LG4163 and Plextor PX712/716 are THE drives at this time.
