in another thread we were talking about rental subcription services vs. buying DVDs and games. then I was thinking about all the video content available on the PSN and XBL stores. their offerings are huge compared to what they were a while ago, and include a lot of things I'd want to watch.

I don't use cable TV, so I use netflix, hulu, etc. I'm a fan of rental over "ownership".
I pay $10+ to see a movie in a theater...

BUT...I don't buy from PSN or XBL.

is it because I'm paying for something that I'm downloading but only allowed to watch once?
is it because Hulu, etc are free (for now) and easy to use?
    I dunno.

what do you think of these stores? do you use them?

I dont download films from either. Its not really something that appeals to me when I can download stuff and keep it.

In the UK the PS3 has a hulu type service intergrated into it (BBC Iplayer) which I use to catch up on missed shows like topgear etc

I bought a couple of episodes of the 90s batman animated series on PSN, but that's it. Whole thing still doesn't feel like a viable option to me, don't know why.

Nope, the Video Store Icon is there in the XMB but "Not available in your region" is all that happens when I try to use it. I wouldn't use it anyway, I get my shows from BitTorrent & Newsgroups. Movies, usually rent.

the 360 video marketplace is really starting to take off. The HD content is getting bigger and bigger - and you only have to DL half the movie before you can stream the rest. The rental timers are a bit retarded, but it's a great place to watch movies if you can't find good ones anywhere else.

so how would you *fix* it?

the rental timer is ridiculous to me. it's EITHER stream OR own.

i can't bring myself to wait for a download, be forced to watch in one sitting, then have to delete it.

well waiting for 50% to finish only applies to HD content, not SD - you can stream that after 1%. You have 24hrs after you press play before it expires, but I think the price is a bit too high for some movies.

I use xbl and psn for the occasional tv episode but never for a movie.

Most tv I'll just watch off of Hulu. Typically for movies I'll just rent through redbox.
