    I don't quite get it

I've been told that it is so that the weights are all uniform and the bar is symmetrical as possible...but wouldn't putting all weights out wards do the same?

If you put a 10lber inside of a 45 lber and the plates are unidirectional, like most, they will rattle more and possibly cause some weight imbalance, but it doesn't matter that much.

I think this is the minutiae people were talking about earlier. It might matter that they face the same direction, but thats about it.

interesting. and the plates that are perfectly symmetrical with the numbers on both sides don't have a correct way to be placed, yes?

because the plates are loaded from largest to smallest, a 25lb plate will rattle less when it's up against the smooth back of a 45 plate. Of course it doesn't matter if you're using plates that are the same on each side.

as long as all the plates on one side are facing the same direction i just dont give a fuck. But my primary gym has... symmetrcal plates, so get this, you dont even have to worry about this shit man, you can load them however you want! isnt technology great?

i load my plates, smallest in and largest out, it helps tremendously for balance. oh i also put a collar on before the plate and i make sure that the plates are as far out as they can possibly go...

    not really

i started putting them inwards because I read it on here a couple of years back. its become a habit. one thing I noticed is that it's easier to handle the plate when you put it on that way. you can grip the "rim" of the plate with all of your fingers rather than just your thumb when its facing outward. and when you pull it off you just flip it on its way down and rack it.

hard to explain, doesnt sound like much but it helps on days where my biceps are wrecked and I have to get the plate high up.

That's funny. I've never seen a powerlifting meet that uses standard plates do that.
