So i'm trying to think of a good mid price range lens to replace my 18-70mm kit lens, or possilby replace that and my 55-200 4-5.6. I rarely actually use teh 55-200 unless i'm at the track, so I was thinking of possibly replacing both lenses with 1 lens.

Any suggestions? I was thinking an 18-200mm, but if possible i'd rather have a shorter focal length in exchange for a constant aperture.

If you rarely use the long end, why compromise the quality of your wide end by getting an 'all in one' lens?

well, i guess "all in one" isn't what i meant to say, but how it came across - but i would like something that gives me some range within say 24-maybe 100 or so? I can't afford a 24-70 2.8 which is what i'd like to get :o

This isn't a high priority right now, just trying to get some ideas. Not planning on getting any new lenses until after i get my D300 body.

oh, i already have a 10-20mm wide angle and a 50mm 1.8 so I have those ranges covered.

I replaced my kit lens with a 12-24 35 and 50. I like primes :big grin: I have a 70-210 that I got for 85 in like new condition but I never use it. I have it incase I need to shoot sports or something, even then the 50 CAN work, an 85 would be better though :big grin:

O but look into the 35-70 2.8, that can be had for a good price. Its push pull though, dunno if that matters to you

I dunno, i'm thinking around 500-600? I'll look at that tamron.

Yeah, the 55-200 is great when I need it, but since i so rarely use it I wonder if i really need 200mm. (now at least) Plus once i upgrade to the D300, i could shoot at a shorter focal length and crop tighter with the higher resolution that it will shoot at.
